For years, one of the main desire of almost all iPad users is to run Mac OS X softwares and apps on their iPad, this was initially impossible because iPads come with iOS installed and not Mac OS X. But YouTuber Jonathan Morrison has pulled of something that we thought was impossible. Morrison was able to get a full version of OS X running on an iPad Pro (2018) with the help of the Mac Mini (2018).
Apple says that iPads and Mac machines will always be separate devices and that we will never be able to see Mac softwares running on an iPad. But thankfully, with the efforts of Morrison we are able to experience that even without the blessing of the company.
Here is how the YouTuber did this impossible job and how you can also try (if you have a Mac Mini 2018 and an iPad Pro 2018 lying around):
The main limitations of this setup is that both, your Mac Mini and iPad pro should be connected to the same network. And your WiFi network should be a fast one, else you may experience a poor laggy connection between the two devices.
Moreover, there are a few more drawbacks:
- The audio doesn’t come from the iPad pro, but from the Mac mini. Which means you’ll probably want to connect an external speakers, or a headset to the Mac mini.
- You will be needing an external display to connect these two devices in the first place, because you will be needing a monitor to see and configure.
- In order to get this setup to work, your iPad should not contain a password (on the lockscreen) unless you’re good at typing the password without having to look at the keypad because you won’t be having an opportunity to see what’s going on. This is because your iPad is acting as a display and not as the main machine.
While this new setup has its limitations and issues, it’s still an amazing job. I mean wouldn’t you love to use a few Mac OS apps and softwares on an iPad or have a “touch screen” Mac? Also, in this setup it’s actually possible to run Final Cut Pro (which is Apple’s high-end video editing software).
